So, the World Cup is almost over with only the final match left. This was a roller coaster of emotions for any cricket fan, but we’ll talk about that in the upcoming posts.
Today I am writing this note as an Indian cricket fan.
I still remember the day when India won the 2011 CWC, my father took me out for a drive and all the roads were jam packed with people from all parts of society dancing on the street as if they were little children. I still remember sitting on my dad’s shoulders surrounded by thousands of people, it was a sight to watch. This was the first time I understood what this game is. This was the first time I learnt how a sport can unite all of us.
That was 12 years ago, since then, I have grown as a huge cricket fan who just lives for this sport. I might not be the best in this game, but I know how much this game means to me.
Today, after 12 years, we are again at the same stage, ICT has qualified for the CWC finals against the mighty Aussies. Today, I have no pre-match analysis, no predictions, no suggestions, nothing but prayers. I just want to experience that celebration once again, please ICT…
After the 2011 finals, I saw the end of one of the greatest generations of cricketers. I also saw the rise of the finest youngsters. And today, we are here, which is probably the last World Cup of these youngsters who are now the legends of the game. Thus, seeing my idols, probably for the last time at the biggest stage of world cricket, was quite emotional for me. But I am happy to know that another great generation of young cricketers is ready to take the baton from the greats. Somewhere, I know a kid who will experience the same celebration after today’s match like I did in 2011 and would start falling in love with this beautiful sport, just the thought of this makes me smile.
I also want to write something for the Indian Cricket Team, I am falling short of words, but I just want to say that please give us another chance to celebrate, please give us another chance to dance on roads, please give us another chance to burst crackers, please give us another story to tell to our grandkids. WE BELIEVE IN YOU…
